Ghetto Latte

Apparently some of the Starbucks employees are upset about people who come in, order regular coffee and then add their own half-n-half from the free condiment bar.  They’ve given this the rather demeaning name of “ghetto latte”.  Now, I’ve bought coffee from Starbucks before and I’ve got a few things to say about it.

One, it’s horribly over priced.  I can get coffee from almost anywhere that’s half the price of Starbucks.  Starbucks here charges almost $5 for their large coffee.  The same thing from anywhere else, including some of the other barista coffee chains runs between $1.79 and $2.50.  So, as nearly as I can tell you’re charging between $2.00 and $2.50 more per cup simply because the cup says Starbucks on it.  I think that for the extra $2.00 per cup that you charge, you can afford to hand out some extra cream.

Secondly, Starbucks coffee always tastes kind of burnt.  They over roast a small percentage of their beans and you can taste it in the coffee.  Blech.  You need the extra cream to kill the taste of it.

Third, if you don’t want people to do this, limit access to the creamer.

Fourth, you are a customer driven business.  STFU.
