For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term “Corporate Governance”, it means setting up and ensuring that a corporation is following the appropriate rules. Why am I writing about that, you ask? Well, here’s the deal. We got a flyer saying that a certain large corporation was coming to our campus to talk about “Corporate Governance”.
I personally find this highly amusing since this corporation has, in the past few months been involved in:
- having a Vice President brought up on criminal embezzlement charges
- is currently involved in a long running suit for discriminating against its female employees
- has been involved in several large class action discrimination suits by various other groups of employees
- has been in the news recently for hiring illegal workers to help construct its new buildings
Dictionary.com defines governance as “The act, process, or power of governing”. Frankly, unless they’re here to talk about what *not* to do, I cannot think of a more unfit group to speak on the subject of Corporate Governance, unless we could bail the management team from Enron out of jail.
